Vols rise above the Catamounts

UT came out on top of the Western Carolina Catamounts on Friday, Dec. 21, to score the 66-52 win. The game was seen by 15,109 fans in the Thompson-Boling Arena. It was the 300th win in Thompson-Boling Arena since opening its doors in 1987.

Kenny Hall was back in the lineup after missing a game due to injury. He scored nine points and had a career-high 13 rebounds.

Four Vols scored in double figures. Jordan McRae came off the bench and led the scorers with 14 points. Josh Richardson netted 12 as did Jarnell Stokes, who also pulled in nine rebounds. Trae Golden kicked in ten points. UT outrebounded the Catamounts 45-30.

Western Carolina had two big scorers in Trey Sumler with 23 and Brandon Boggs with 15.

UT went on a 12-0 run and stifled the Catamounts for 5:07.

But it wasn’t all UT. They fell behind 14-4 midway through the first half when WCU went on a 10-0 run. They trailed by 10 points in the first half, but regained the lead on a McRae free throw with 3:48 in the first half.

Next up for Tennessee is Xavier at the Thompson-Boling Arena, Saturday, Dec. 29 at 6 p.m. The game will air on ESPNU and can be heard on the Vol Network.
