Knoxville Police are investigating two shootings that occurred overnight Dec. 26.
Susan Coker of Knoxville Police Department said officers responded at approximately 7:51 p.m., Dec. 26 to 6230 Papermill to meet with a victim who stated he had been shot somewhere between West Town Mall and Papermill Drive. The victim, identified as Michael Fife, 29, of Maryville, was transported to UT Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
KPD Public Information Officer Darrell DeBusk said, “Fife admitted to investigators that he was meeting the suspects to purchase illegal narcotics when the suspects attempted to rob him at gunpoint inside the suspects’ vehicle. Fife indicated he grabbed the gun but the suspect was able to regain control of the handgun and shot him one time.” The suspects dropped off the victim near Papermill Road. Investigators are continuing to follow leads.
Fife reportedly had a minor grazing wound to his thigh.
Lt. Bryan J. Malone of Knoxville Police Department reported a Knoxville man is in critical condition after officers responded to 1705 Glenwood Ave. on a shooting call at approximately 2:30 a.m., Dec. 27. On arrival, officers found Charjuan Hayes on the second floor of the house with a gunshot wound to the chest. Hayes was transported to U.T. Medical Center. He was listed in critical but stable condition late Thursday. Police said several people who were inside the house at the time of the shooting were taken to KPD headquarters for further questioning. The motive for the shooting is not yet known.
