Never Doubt

Rita Sutton

The Bible says we are strangers in this world, sojourners upon this earth. Would that we all had the faith of Abraham, an alien on this planet, who, although he did not know where he was going, trusted God to take him where ever He led. Such faith as Abraham had carried him though many heartaches and tears. He did what God told him to do, regardless of the cost. But we know by the Word of God he was rewarded for doing so. “But Abraham never doubted or questioned God’s promise. His faith made him strong and he gave all the credit to God” (Romans 4:20).

Let’s look at some scriptures about doubt, the old culprit who tries our faith. “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them” (Mark 11:23). With the human mind it’s impossible to contemplate what this verse of God’s holy Word tells us. But with the mind of Christ we can believe that it can be done.

All my life, I’ve heard this scripture preached on and it always caused me concern, wondering if I had the faith to believe such a thing. But my friend, when the “mountains” in my life seemed so enormous, seemingly laughing in my face, I found out for myself that if I trusted God completely, every kind of mountain can be spoken to by faith, and it shall be removed! Praise His Holy Name!

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who   gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and no doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do” (James 1:5-8) The Bible states if anyone lacks wisdom-which is the knowledge, understanding, and instruction of God-to ask God for these traits. He, who gives so liberally to all, will do as His Word relates.

It also tells us we must ask in belief if we desire to see things come to pass. I haven’t had the privilege to see the vast seas of the world, but I have the ocean, when the wind is blowing so furiously, the waves are enormous in the air. God says if we doubt and are unstable or uncertain in our ways and doubt the ability of God, we will not receive what we so need from Him.

“My friends, watch out! Don’t’ let evil thoughts or doubts make any of you turn from the living God” (Hebrews 3:12). Charles H. Mayo states this phrase,” Worry affects the circulation, the heart, the glands, the whole nervous system. I have never known a man who died of overwork, but many who did from worry.” Life is not worth turning from the very one we need so desperately-our Almighty God!

“I will therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath or doubting” (I Timothy 2:8). We are to pray to the Lord lifting up holy, clean, righteous hands everywhere we go. If we could only but live without doubt, what miracles we could see accomplished.

Until next time, remember, trust God with an unwavering heart, praying without ceasing, and just see what our Heavenly Father will do for us!
