Man charged in two rape attempts

A 38-year-old Knoxville man who reportedly used a gun and a knife while threatening to rape two women in Knox County has been apprehended.

A woman reported to Knoxville Police she was picked up just after 4 a.m. Nov. 7, by a man who said he wanted to pay her to have sex with him. He drove her to an area along Archie Weigel Road. There he held her at gunpoint wanting to have sex with her, she said. The woman escaped and ran to a home in the area where a resident notified police.

On Thursday morning, Nov. 8, another woman accepted an offer for a ride home with the same man. The victim told deputies the man drove her to a remote area off River Landing Way where he threatened her with a knife to her, and tried to have sex with her. She also escaped into a wooded area as the assailant attempted to run her down with his car, she said. She notified police and described the vehicle the man was driving.

Later, Thursday morning, a Knoxville Police officer located a vehicle matching the description near the intersection of Central Street at Scott Avenue in North Knoxville. Michael Reagan, 38, of Thorngrove Pike, was driving. Police took Reagan into custody and after both victims identified him as the man who abducted and tried to rape them, Knox County Sheriff’s officers charged Reagan with  aggravated rape and attempted aggravated rape. Reagan was booked at Knox County Jail under $1 million bond.

According to the sheriff’s office, Reagan’s criminal history in Knoxville includes assault, marijuana possession, theft, vandalism, and domestic assault.
