Today, I want for us to study about the church. The term “church” can apply to a physical building as well as to a body of believers. Either way it is a place for Christians to pray, praise and worship together.
With Christ and His love as the cornerstone, the church is a living organism made to touch the Lord. It is made to touch the lives of others in His name.
It is a sad thing today that most of the time women outweigh the number of men who attend church. This is a pitiful situation; for the home is where the Bible states men are to be the head of the family. To remind us how important attending church is, God instituted the church before the family. This is not to say the family is not of great importance because it is-very important. Like the church is to be an example to the world so is the family. The Word of God states that the father is to be the leader of the home/family, so are the men to be leaders over the house of God.
The body of Christ is to help each other with encouragement and anything our hands can do to bless others. We are to help those who know not the Son of God to find their way to Jesus Christ, for someone helped us when we needed Him. I have always heard it said “We come to church to worship and go out to serve.” That’s our God-given duty. The Bible has a lot to say about the church. Let’s look at some scripture.
“God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself” (Ephesians 1:22-23 NLT). The Christian is not to go to church just to worship. The child of God takes the temple with him/her. Jesus lifts us beyond the building and pays the human body the highest compliment by making this His dwelling place, the place He meets with us.
“Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the Word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish” (Ephesians 5:25-27). The uniqueness of the church is her message-the Gospel. The church is the only institution entrusted by God with the message of repentance of sins and belief in Jesus Christ for forgiveness.
Until text time, let’s all be in church somewhere Sunday.
