Knoxville man dies in head-on crash

A Knoxville man died following a head-on collision near the intersection of Delrose Ave. and Riverside Rd. in Knoxville at approximately 5:45 a.m., Dec. 27.

Knoxville Police Lt. Bryan J. Malone said a 1997 Lincoln was traveling east on Delrose Ave. and a 2001 Dodge Ram truck was going westbound. When the driver of the truck topped a hill and saw the Lincoln coming towards him in the westbound lane.

Police said the driver of the Dodge truck, Jeffery Snyder, 50, of Knoxville attempted to avoid contact with the Lincoln but was unsuccessful.  The driver of the Lincoln died from his injuries while being transported to UT Medical Center. He was identified as 22-year-old Daniel Lundy.

Snyder, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported to UT for treatment of what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. It is still undetermined if Lundy was wearing his seatbelt in the Lincoln.

Lt. Malone said the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
