The classic rock group Foreigner will perform at Smokies Stadium on Sunday, September 22, 2013 along with 38 Special and the Marshall Tucker Band. The show will begin at 7p.m. with gates opening at 5:30pm.
Foreigner has had nine top ten hits and have sold more than 70 million albums. Their hits have included “Feels Like the First Time”, “Cold As Ice”, “Hot Blooded”, “Double Vision” and “Waiting for A Girl Like You.”
“A local high school choir (The Sevier County High School Choir) will be singing back-up for us on ‘I want to know what love is’,” said Kelly Hansen, lead singer of Foreigner. “We will be donating $500 to the school’s music program. We support school music programs through the Grammy Foundation. Music programs have been cut so much and we want to help fund those programs because kids need music and arts to be more well-rounded.”
Foreigner is currently on a national tour promoting their latest compilation album “Feels like the first time.”
“It’s a three CD set that includes the classics in acoustic and a live C.D.,” said Hansen. “The C.D. has been selling well. Next year we will kick off a European tour including Ireland and the U.K. This band has become known around the world and we like to perform for our fans over there.“
The edgy sound of Foreigner that catapulted them to fame in the early 1980s and made them into rock lexicons recently earned two of the founding members a dubious place in the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
“Mick Jones and Lou Gramm were inducted recently and I am proud of both of them,” said Hansen. “Lou left the group in 2002 but his musical influence is still part of who we are. It was quite an honor for both of them.”
In addition to Foreigner, the southern rock group 38 Special will also perform. After more than three decades together, 38 Special continues to bring their signature blast of Southern Rock to over 100 cities a year. At each and every show, thousands of audience members are amazed by the explosive power of the band’s performance.
Their many Gold and Platinum album awards stand in testament to the endurance of a legendary powerhouse. With sales in excess of 20 million albums, most associate the band with their arena-rock pop smashes, “Hold On Loosely,” “Rockin’ Into the Night,” “Caught Up in You,” “Fantasy Girl,” “If I’d Been the One,” Back Where you Belong,” “Chain Lightnin’”, “Second Chance,” and more – timeless hits that remain a staple on radio, immediately recognizable from the first opening chord, paving the way to their present day touring regimen.
The Marshall Tucker Band will open for Foreigner and 38 Special. Years of rigorous tour schedules earned the band the respect of critics and countless dedicated fans. With hit singles like “Heard It In a Love Song”, “Fire On The Mountain”, “Can’t You See” and “Take The Highway.” The Marshall Tucker Band earned seven gold and three platinum albums while they were on the Capricorn Records label.
