The identity of a man that drowned last week in Douglas Lake has been released. According to Sevier County Sheriff Ron Seals, The victim has been identified as Elijah James Dixon, 20, of McMahan Ave. in Sevierville.
According to Seals, on September 11, at approximately 1:47 P.M. a 911 call was received from a caller at a cove on Dyke Road that a swimmer had drowned. Rescuers and law enforcement responded to the location and a rescue and recovery effort was initiated.
At app. 4:15pm the victim’s body was recovered by a rescue diver in app. 48’ of water in the approximate location where witnesses saw the victim go under. According to witnesses the Victim was swimming with friends and tried to swim across a cove and apparently became exhausted and was unable to make it to the other side. The Victims friends attempted to save him but was unable to. The responding agencies, in addition to the Sheriff’s Office, were the Sevier Co. Vol. Rescue Squad, Sevier County Vol. Fire Dept. and Knoxville Vol. Rescue Squad.
