Arson investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire at a boarded up convenience store where firefighters found a body, Saturday.
Captain D.J. Corcoran of Knoxville Fire Department said fire crews were called to the corner of MLK at Harrison St. shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, for report of a vacant gas/convenient store on fire. Firefighters from City of Knoxville, once on the scene, found fire in the ceiling area of the flat roofed, bricked structure.
During a secondary search of the smoke filled building, a body was discovered inside. The business was ordered closed this summer by the city, and has been boarded up since then with “No Trespassing” signs posted to the exterior.
Arson Investigators along with KPD Crime Lab are investigating the cause. No injuries to firefighters are reported at this time.
