United States Magistrate Judge Clifford Shirley on Thursday, Aug. 30, denied motions to dismiss felony charges against former Knox County Criminal Court Judge Richard Baumgartner.
After the conclusion of an investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, in which detectives concluded he was buying pain pills from an individual who was convicted as a felon, Baumgartner was indicted last May on seven counts of federal misprision of a felony.
Thursday, Aug. 30, Judge Shirley ruled that the indictment against Baumbartner was complete enough. A GPS tracking system, photographs of his vehicle, and the ex-judge’s medical records will not be entered into evidence against him unless he testified.
A trial date has not been set for Baumgartner.
