Last week, the latest in a series of armed robberies took place. Over a period of two weeks, the same robber committed eight armed robberies.
In one robbery, he placed the barrel of a pistol to a woman clerk’s head while demanding money. Police were quoted as saying that he was becoming more violent in his heists. Apparently, the robber felt he was “entitled” to the proceeds of others work in operating a store.
This all came to an end last week. A brave store clerk got fed up with the arrogant robber demanding a day’s receipts without working for them. Furthermore, this “share the wealth” individual threatened to come back, and, according to some accounts, made threats against the female clerks.
Placing his life in danger, the male clerk went after the robber. Shots were exchanged. The robber dropped the money. Shortly afterwards, an individual was found dead in an alleyway near the store.
Now, you would think that this would be all the story- “Clerk recovers money, stops robbery.” Not so.
First of all, we have a “story” about the fact that the clerk did not have a hand gun permit. How did another paper find this out? Those records are confidential. Secondly, there was a great hue and cry about SHOOTING at an armed robber. Why not? The robber called the play. Next, commentary that the store’s policy was that their employees would not be armed. We do not know where he had the gun- I am just glad he did. Next, a call to refer the matter to the District Attorney to see if prosecution was appropriate. For the robber, yes, but he is dead.
Folks when you have a serial robber who displays firearms and threatens the workers it is time to take some action. If I had a business, I would hire this man at once as he is not afraid to stand up for what he thinks is right.
In my neighborhood there was an armed robbery. The robber fired into the ceiling and threatened to come back and assault the lady clerks. It frightened them so badly that two quit.
We have had a run of robberies some with pistols, some with knives, and a couple with blunt instruments such as tire irons.
Folks, the gentleman at the store last week was right. Force was met with force. I can only think what would have happened if in that tragic school there had been ONE armed person on the side of the law. The sight of a man with a rifle would have caused the one armed man, or woman to respond. We would not be having mass funerals. Remember, a heavily armed society is a VERY polite society. No, I don’t mean for everyone to go armed. However, a properly trained and armed person can avert a tradigy. After eight armed robberies, one man’s luck ran out. To Anthony Smith- the clerk with the guts to stop an armed robber- WELL DONE
